cut it out cut it out cut it out

Last June, on a particularly enjoyable day when several friends and I hijacked the school theater for our own ends (there are perks to being on stage crew) we ordered chinese food. My fortune cookie? "In your search for a soulmate, look no further than the person next to you." I am not a superstitious man, but this seemed to fit in well with my own feelings. The end result? The fortune cookie obviously lied. It's impossible for a machine printing messages on slips of paper that are then put into cookies as novelty items for ignorant diners to actually predict the future or offer counsel. So why do I almost want to believe today's "Any rough times are now over"? Maybe I'm just tired enough of all this bullshit that any sign is a good one, even the false ones.
